Description:

This course examines design and construction techniques practiced in golf course development. Developed primarily for golf course superintendents involved in new golf course construction projects, the course provides an opportunity to work through the golf course development process from site analysis to completed design.

This course is accredited by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for 3.6 GCSAA education points. These education points are applicable towards Class A and certification entry and renewal for GCSAA members.

Golf course superintendents and employees wishing to gain an understanding of the golf course environment and improve skills needed to offer superior playing conditions.

Course Topics:

  • A Brief History of Golf - Summarize the history and evolution of golf.

  • Golf Design from A to Z - Identify the major factors that must be considered when selecting a golf course location; hypothesize the placement and design of features (e.g., clubhouse area, holes, fairways etc.) within the golf course.

  • Design of Features - Describe the factors that are considered when designing the individual features (e.g., greens, bunkers, tees, water etc.) on the golf course.

  • Golf Course Construction - Design a golf course using a standard progression of steps to develop the raw land to the finished product. Create and illustrate this design.

  • General Post-Construction Maintenance - Describe basic maintenance procedures required to establish a new golf course.
