This course will guide the student through the naturalization process beginning with an introduction to environmental thought and associated issues. It continues with a brief overview of the history of land use, abuse and recovery, as well as human values and perceptions regarding nature, in order to enhance an understanding of our behaviour toward it today. The course will explore the rationale of naturalization and describe the principles of landscape ecology and native plant communities while considering both rural and urban ecosystems, pristine nature, and landscapes altered by humans.
Landscape practitioners wishing to gain an understanding of design and maintenance techniques relevant to a sustainable approach to landscapes.
